The standoff in Texas continues. Governor Greg Abbot continues to have the state's national Guard and other agencies install razor wire and border barriers. Meanwhile, 25 republican governors have issued a public statement saying they stand with Texas Daily Wire reporter Spencer Linquist is on the ground in Eagle Pass. He's been speaking to the Texas National Guard.

The Biden administration demanded that the Texas National Guard give border patrol access to Shelby park by today, but the park is still under control by Texas authorities, despite the National Guard defying the administration's request. Things do appear to be pretty calm here at Shelby park, and it doesn't look like federal agents have made any attempt to enter the park. So for now, the standoff seems to be contained in the political arena. But that being said, the area is receiving additional media attention. South Dakota Governor Christie Noam and Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick toured the park today, meeting with members of the Texas National Guard and dps. Meanwhile, 25 republican governors have given abbot their support, with many expected to send their own national guards down to the border.

Boeing CEO David Calhoun visited Capitol Hill on Wednesday to be grilled by senators regarding the safety of its 737 Max nine. Listeners will recall that an exit door on an Alaska Airlines Max nine blew off earlier this month while the plane was in flight. The National Transportation Safety Board, NTSB, is wrapping up its investigation into what happened. But Calhoun told reporters that Boeing understands the gravity of the situation.

Us intelligence secretly warned Iran about the ISIS terror attack that killed 84 people and wounded nearly 300. The attack was carried out on January 3 at a state memorial for iranian general Qassim Soleimani. The intelligence was shared with Iran due to the US government's duty to warn policy, which applies even to us adversaries.

Microsoft became the second company to be valued above $3 trillion on Wednesday. Only Apple had crossed that threshold. Microsoft's stock price rose a bit, to about $405. On Thursday, the company announced it will be cutting nearly 2000 jobs, or 8% of its employees, from its gaming sector. Most of these layoffs come from Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, in which they gained 10,000 employees. The tech industry overall has been downsizing this year. Discord announced a 17% cut, eBay is cutting about 1000 jobs, and Xerox announced a 15% reduction in its workforce. Here's Roger Lee, creator of layoffs.

03:09

Speaker 6
FYI, it's been a bad recent few months for tech layoffs. Already this year were over 10,000 tech employees cut, and that follows a brutal 2023 where over 260,000 employees got cut in the tech sector. A lot of the recent layoffs are still about tech companies trying to correct further overhring during the pandemic, given that the high interest rate environment and the tech downturn have both lasted longer than initially expected.
